Taxes in Spain
We provide an expert and professional service for all your tax-related issues.
Both residents and non-residents must pay taxes annually in Spain if they own a property in this country. Unscrupulous estate agents may not always inform you of all your tax obligations if they think that their commission might be in jeopardy. At Soler Berná, we pride ourselves on our expertise and transparency and will never try to hide any information from you.
The tax system in Spain can be confusing and complicated at times, which is why it is always advisable to appoint a fiscal representative who will take care of your tax business, ensuring that all your tax obligations are met, your tax payments are up to date and that they are paid on time. Failure to do so can result in hefty fines.
Your lawyer will take care of the taxes that you must pay when purchasing or selling a property at the time of purchase or sale. But there are also taxes that both residents and non-residents must pay annually on their Spanish property.
Non-Resident Taxes
- Non-resident Income Tax is split into two: Rental tax if you rent out your property in Spain, or imputed income tax if you own a property but do not rent it out
- IBI Tax is a local property tax that goes towards local services and infrastructure, paid to your town hall between August and October
- Rubbish Collection Tax. A separate levy issued from your local town hall for the collection of refuse
Resident Taxes
- Resident Annual Income Tax. Each year, residents must declare all earnings made in Spain or abroad from work, renting property, pension, interest on savings or any capital gains from assets
- IBI Tax is a local property tax that goes towards local services and infrastructure, paid to your town hall between August and October
- Rubbish Collection Tax. A separate levy issued from your local town hall for the collection of refuse
